The jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on February 20 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio. Her parents were ironworker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the sixth of seven kids. Nancy was heavily influenced in her early years by the music her dad enjoyed and loved playing when she was at his home. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate to New York for her career and, in 1959, she relocated to The Big Town. Within a couple of weeks after, her manager saw her performance and decided to hire her. In 1960, he enlisted her to Capitol Records, and that same year she released her first single. Guess who I saw today? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song.
