Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Ohio, Chillicothe on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had been employed for a considerable period as housekeeper. Nancy was one of six kids. Nancy grew up listening to records from her father as well as his enthusiasm for music. By the age of four, Nancy knew that she would like to become an accomplished musician. She discovered her talent for music through participating in choirs of the church. While still in high-school her appearances in Skyline Melodies. In the year she turned 15years old, Nancy started her career in night clubs. After graduating from high school aged 17 Nancy matriculated for one semester at the Ohio's Central State College now Central State University before leaving and becoming an accomplished singer. Her first record was recorded in 1956 by the Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy released her first album on Dot Records while in the group. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she move into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959 Nancy made the move into The Big Town. Adderley's Agent heard her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. within a month after arriving in New York City. In 1960, he enlisted her to Capitol Records and in that same year she released her first single. Guess Who I See Today? The records she released were also successful. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's leadership, Wilson started focusing on R&B and then shifted her focus to torch and jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to bring her to the forefront as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was made available in the year 1963. The performance helped her land a gig at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963. It was the most crowded in America's nightclub.
