Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

The jazz performer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest of six children. The father of Nancy was a fan of music and loved to play records with his children at home. This was a major influence in her early years. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball addederley suggested she move to New York for her career, and in 1959 she made the move in The Big Town. Within a couple of weeks after, her manager was impressed by her voice and hired her. The contract was signed with Capitol records in 1960 and she debuted the following year by releasing the single. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Initially focusing on blues and rhythm under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace the torch and jazz genres. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley helped propel her to prominence and she had her breakout song Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The following year it led to her getting booked in the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
